Industrial schools over all were an uninviting experience for children who were often faced with cultural destruction, abuse and that ended in something similar to a genocide of indigenous children. Though the intent may have been positive to the settlers they could not understand the harm being placed on these children physically and emotionally but even spiritually by not being guided by their people in their culture and beliefs. These schools proved to be more difficult to start up once set to action due to the discomfort the children and parents had with the idea of being away from each other for so long, the destruction on their beliefs and that they would speak only english rather than their own language. When the French took on teachings similar to indigenous peoples the results were far greater.
